Baking with Vala = disaster

I may have many talents and many interests, but none of them include activities in the kitchen.

I don’t like cooking, and don’t like baking so much – I do it once in a while but not with much of a passion.

I slump everthing and the funniest cases are when me and Þórir are baking together, because we drive each other crazy. He needs to measure everything and even when the recipe says "handful of this" he would need to measure it! Cool then I tell him to just throw a little bit of this and more of that in the bowl and it usually ends in either one of us leaves the kitchen Tongue out

So today I was making gingerbread figures with Patrik and it went all right to begin with. I bought a good idiot proof instant mix and just had to add syrup, milk & butter.

After making few figures; batch 1 was ready to hit the oven.. and it came out looking like this!!

disaster

We bought some new great figure forms in Ikea (where else!!?) and they are very different from the ones we have used before – Love it!

When batch 2 finally came out, after being monitored in the oven, Patrik was soooo excited, and yelled out "yayy just the way they are supposed to look!!"

Tomorrow he’ll have his friend Atli come over to help him decorate the figures…..
the ones that are edible that is……

Every coin has a story, or what?

There is something about scratched/dirty/bend/rusty/etc coins that I like. I like imagining the story behind it, what happened and who did it.

On our holidays in July we went hiking in South Iceland and up against the cliffs I look down to the ground and by accident find a coin in the ground. I realized it had been there for a long time as it was well stuck in the mud.

Coin

The coin isfrom 1961 so it’s not that old but the currency was reformed around 1980 so it’s no longer in use.

Beachcombing

In my last visit to Reykjavík I bought jars in Ikea for my "sea collection.
Yesterday I started to organize it a little bit and here’s a sample of what I’ve organized so far.
 Collection
The stones in the jar to the left (the brown/reddish ones) are called concretions and are one of my favorite stones.
Like humans, no shell is totally identical and I like searching for the uniqueness in each one.
I have tons more that need to be organized, oh boy!

Lighthouses are one of my passions so I was so happy to receive one lighthouse.

The 2nd card is a Moomin one Cool I actually got the Dad Mummi because the card was sent on last Sunday which was in many countries the Fathers day.

I’m Back!

I think it’s about time I write some news here on my blog! Cool

I didn’t knit at all, all summer and finally casted on this fall. I finished 2 cardigans already, one for my brother and another one for Patrik.

At the moment I’m making a hat for Patrik, Lopi Lite comes in such beautiful colors and this green is one of them.

Lopi

For Haukur

Here is the pattern from the cardigan I made for my brother, I was gonna send him it for his birthday in May but got kinda delayed hehehe…. better later than never right!

Pattern: "Verur" from Lopi 29 designed by Védís Jónsdóttir
Yarn: Létt Lopi by Ístex
Needles: US 6 / 4.5 mm

Raven

When I first saw this raven pattern this summer, I instantly knew I had to make it for my son. The turquoies color is one of the 6 "summer colors" that Istex made this spring as a limited edition.

I made this cardigan with 2ply unspun lopi

My fridge magnet collection is growing, I’ve got few magnets over the months.
