Eldey

The small dot to the left in this picture is the Island Eldey, it lays at the south coast of Iceland.

This photo I took in 2007 when I visited Reykjanes peninsula

About 30.000 pairs of the Northern Gannet breed in Iceland, there of are ~16.000 in Eldey.

When a group of people got a permission to plant webcameras in Eldey so it would be possible to

watch the Gannets colony that lives there I was so very thrilled.

The northern Gannet lay egg in the beginning of April, so soon the party will start ;)

The day 2 in the 30 day challenge is a picture of the person I’ve been closest with the longest

I’d say I’ve been closest with my sisters the longest.

 
They are 4 years younger and me, and yes they are twins

I’ve never found my sisters that alike, but that’s probably because I grew up with them and am used to their looks

Using the hands and feet can make a lot of figures

There is Rudolph the reindeer, the foot is used for the face and hands for horns.
The christmas cat (Yuletide Cat), in (Icelandic "Jólakötturinn"), is a myth from Icelandic folklore.
We made him with Patrik’s hand, the hat, head and tail we draw up and cut out ourselves

In Iceland, we don’t have 1 santa, but 13! The Icelandic yulelads are quite different from the Santa Clause

They are actually some kind of trolls, who live up in the mountains with their mother Grýla and father Leppalúði and their pet Jólakötturinn (the Yuletide cat).
13 days before Christmas they start to come to town, 1 by 1,
and they give every kid a treat in their shoe (that is put in the window) if they have behaved well.
If they have misbehaved they get a potato or an onion.
In the early day, these trolls were used to scare kids
If they wouldn’t behave or wouldn’t get new clothes for Christmas, the yuletide cat would eat them.
Grýla also eats children and if you want to know more you should press on the links I’ve added in the text.

I BARELY remember when my son was that young (turning 5 in only 3 months!!)
but I remember that it was a big event, the first birthday always is.

Kambgarn is an imported Australian merino wool, worked and colored in Iceland
